Looking for a birding guide from Dec.20 to Jan.4
Hi, This is Hanyang Ye, abirder based in New York and here‘s my eBird profile https://ebird.org/profile/MjA5NDEyNw. My girlfriend and I are very interested in birds of New Zealand and willing to have a trip there. I'm worried about the driving because we drive at the left side of the car in the US; and I'm afraid that I won't be able to find many targets by myself. Therefore, we're seeking for a guide. Our schedule allows us to be there from Dec. 20 to Jan. 4; and we’re targeting as many as endemic species if our time allow us, as well as offshore species. We’re birders more than photographers; so photography isn’t always the main goal, but we do want to see rather than hear every species in the list. Please contact me know if anyone is able to guide us through that period! (carabus.ye.xxl@gmail.com) We’ll greatly appreciate any helps!

Have you tried Birdingpal? See https://www.birdingpal.org/NewZealand.htm
Fatbirder also has some info on tours - see https://fatbirder.com/world-birding/aus ... w-zealand/
Your visit will be a bit rushed with only 2 weeks and some touristy places might be well-booked by now as you are planning to visit at peak holiday time.
If you aren't going to drive you might be best to choose a bit rather than the whole lot, or a few bits of NZ and fly between them. Driving here isn't that difficult and lots of folks who ordinarily drive on the wrong side of the road (and in the wrong front seat in their vehicle) get on ok. The roads might be a bit windier and slower in places than you are used to in the US, and have less traffic.
If I was in your situation and not driving I'd probably have a few days in Auckland, maybe a couple of days each in Wellington, Christchurch and Dunedin and a few days on Stewart Island (fly into Invercargill, then take the boat across).
