My name is Robin Le Bert, I’m a 23-year-old naturalist from France, and I’ll be in New Zealand from November 2025 to June 2026.
I’m looking for volunteer or seasonal field opportunities related to bird monitoring, seabird or shorebird conservation, or general wildlife fieldwork.
I hold a Vocational Bachelor’s Degree in Study & Development of Natural Spaces (University of Montpellier, 2024) and a Technician’s Certificate in Nature Management and Protection (2023).
Over the past few years, I’ve been involved with LPO (BirdLife France) and national parks, gaining field experience in:
Assisting in bird banding operations (mainly seabirds, gulls, waders, passerines, and raptors)
Migration monitoring at major watchpoints (Organbidexka, Leucate, Cap Ferret, Corsica)
Field ecology protocols – nest monitoring, breeding success, and mortality surveys
Public outreach & education – guiding school groups and visitors in nature reserves
I’m especially interested in opportunities involving seabirds or coastal species, and I’d love to learn more about New Zealand’s monitoring and banding methods.
In the long term, I hope to apply for field positions with the French Southern and Antarctic Territories (TAAF), and volunteering in New Zealand would be an invaluable step in developing those skills.
If anyone knows of projects, field teams, or contact persons who might take volunteers, I’d be very grateful for your advice or leads.
Thanks a lot for your time, and all the best to everyone involved in NZ conservation work!
Kind regards,
Robin Le Bert
