FIORLAND CRESTED PINGUIN

Post by majovet7 »

Hi people! i will go to Milford Sound this weekend and i will be glad if you can give me some advices about some birds.
- Fiorland crested pinguin: I know that the best chance for them is to do the cruise, but i dont know if it is a little late for the dates..... what do you think?
- Rock wren: in Homer Tunnel? another place?
- Blue Dack?

Thank you very much for advantage!!
Happy Christmas!

Homer Tunnel still seems to be the best bet for Rock Wrens and they have been reported from near the edge of the car park. Otherwise try the nearby Gertrude Saddle Track.

There are also Blue Ducks in this area. Try the car park at Monkey Creek where the head of the valley first opens up. Look on the river across the road. Also on the western side of the tunnel keep your eyes on the rivers as they could appear in a number of places.

For the penguin you are at least three weeks too late but you might spot one swimming on Milford Sound.
