Birds of Takapourewa / Stephens Island

Post by Colin Miskelly »

Hi all

Please find attached a link to a Te Papa blog about the birds and mammals of this treasure of an island, based on a visit to collect fairy prion chicks for translocation last month:

http://blog.tepapa.govt.nz/2015/02/16/b ... ns-island/

The falcons were a constant presence, particularly the two one-year-old birds (a male and a female), though all four were in the air at times, including stooping on a pied shag that foolishly ventured over the summit ridge.

Cheers
Colin
