Arnold River/ Moana

Post by Byrd »

hi,
has anyone here been looking for great spotted kiwi at the Arnold River Loop track? How far is this from Moana, or conversely is there somewhere closer to stay than Moana if it is quite a way away (I'll be on foot)? Are there any other good spots near Moana otherwise that are worth trying?
Thanks for any help.

I don't believe there are GSKs near Lake Brunner any more - they died out there a number of years ago. The nearest ones I have heard about are well up the Taipo River; more than an easy walk from Moana.

Unfortunately I don't believe the forests near Moana hold any of the scarcer forest birds like Robin, Yellow-crowned Parakeet or Kaka.
