Royal Spoonbill in Palmerston North

Post by Jake »

Near Waitoetoe park just on the opposite side of the Manawatu River. Single bird, I got a good look at it as it flew overhead to land up river from where I was. It's been logged on eBird and the marker is place pretty accurately. I know that this species isn't super rare but it might be good if anyone is local and wants to add it to their list without travelling too far. We'll see if it's there tomorrow

They frequent the Manawatu estuary quite often don't they?

Yes, you're correct, they do but I'm not aware of them being seen this far up. I've only seen them inland a couple of times but yeah they can be common in some parts
