Re: Erect-crested Penguin on Otago Pen
I've just been speaking to Brian Templeton at Elm Wildlife in Dunedin. He has been helping me find out about the ECPenguin photographed last week at Sandfly Bay.
Would anyone be surprised to learn that there are currently 4 (Yes! Four!) Erect-crested Penguins in care at Penguin Place on the Otago Peninsular? And that they have had 18 (!!!!) various crested penguins there in the last few months, only one of which was a Fiordland.
Us poor birders dont stand a chance, eh?
cheers

That's amazing! Good on you for following up and finding this out, Sav.
It's a timely reminder to keep a lookout for them at spots they've been found at previously.
It would also be interesting to know which species the other crested penguins were: Erect Crested, Snares, Rockhopper, Royal ???
